NCAA Division II’s seven 2020 fall championships have been canceled. The Division II Presidents Council made the decision due to the operational, logistical, and financial challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the Board of Governors’ directives, the Division II Presidents Council said they will not be able to hold the fall championships.  The reason given was due to the health and well-being of student-athletes it was not feasible for the games to be played.

After hearing the news, KKOW News Director Steve Scott reached out to Jared Bruggeman, Director of Athletics at MSSU. Here is the Missouri Southern State University statement on the MIAA (Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association) decision not to have a championship game this year.

“This is a disappointing decision and I’m sure it will be hard to handle for our coaches and student-athletes,” said Jared Bruggeman, Director of Athletics at MSSU. “What we must do is ensure we can protect the health and safety of our student-athletes, as well as any spectators, while making sure we do it in a manner that is both cost-effective and logistically sound. With the guidelines we’ve received, it will be hard to do for any institution at any level of the NCAA to accomplish.”

The Pittsburg State University football team will open its 2020 football season Saturday, September 12, by hosting Missouri Southern State University at 7 p.m.
