A Message to Students as They Head Back to Class

The new school year gives an opportunity for kids to re-unite with their friends and a chance to make some new ones.

You know its just a fact of life, but kids have to move wherever and whenever their parents decide. Sometimes that happens between school years.

It happened to me in between 6th and 7th grade. It was a big moment in my school career to change. I was heading into what was called Junior High. It was a little sad to leave behind all my friends I had grown to know since first grade. At the same time I was nervous to begin Junior High, going to a school where I absolutely knew no one, and most of the others already had their friends base set.

But the big thing is, I remember a number of other kids speaking to me and getting to know me in those first few days, which did so much for my confidence and helped make the move and transition so much easier.

So, my message for students as they return to class, is to be watchful for that new student who may have moved into your district. Parents, encourage your child to introduce themselves and invite them to sit at the same lunch table or if it applies play at recess.

Also, encourage your child to be on the look out and watchful for any other kid being bullied or mistreated.  This is especially true for new kids to the school.

Kindness showed, will bring kindness back in return.

Let’s make it a great start to what we hope will be a fantastic year in our area schools.
